Limen Montis

Firmament – Volume I continues the exploration of orientation, perception, and renewed trust in direct observation begun in the pastel works of Firmament – Volume II. Where the pastel collection traced a gradual ascent from obscured terrain toward increasing clarity, the acrylic works extend that movement into a landscape that has become fully navigable: expansive, continuous, and open to interpretation.
Across triptychs and individual paintings, mountains, valleys, ridgelines, and elevated meadows function as systems of orientation rather than obstacles. The terrain no longer conceals its structure. Distances become readable, landmarks emerge, and the viewer is invited to move through the landscape without dependence on a predetermined route.

Executed in acrylic, the collection shifts from the atmospheric delicacy of pastel toward broader chromatic fields, sustained spatial continuity, and more architectural forms. Colour becomes increasingly assertive, not as decoration, but as information. Turquoise skies, luminous greens, mineral blues, and pale mountain forms establish relationships between foreground, distance, and horizon, allowing the landscape to communicate direction through contrast, rhythm, and scale.

The triptychs extend this idea across multiple panels, creating landscapes that cannot be understood from a single fixed point. Works such as Terra Aperta and Limen Montis explore openness and threshold: one revealing the breadth of available terrain, the other the moment a passage becomes perceptible. The smaller works continue this progression through cliffs, valleys, and high meadows, moving from compression toward calm.

If Softening Earth examined the danger of trusting inherited paths after the terrain itself had changed, Firmament asks what becomes possible once those paths are no longer treated as authority. The landscape becomes a field of evidence. Mountains become reference points. Valleys become connections. Open ground becomes choice.

Firmament – Volume I is ultimately concerned with confidence after uncertainty: not the certainty of knowing exactly where to go, but the steadier knowledge that the world can be observed, interpreted, and navigated again.
